Posted by tasteoffreedom on July 2, 2012 at 11:05 AM

Just because you have allergies doesn't mean you have to spend hrs. in the kitchen.

I have a delicious shortcut to great butternut squash soup. Really, no one knows it is not from scratch (Oh, I guess they do now).

2 (32oz) containers of Imagine Butternut Squash Soup

1 (12oz)pkg frozen cooked butternut squash puree (like Bird's Eye- Southland)

a generous dash of curry

If you can't find frozen butternut squash puree,...

Posted by tasteoffreedom on July 2, 2012 at 12:50 AM

Have you ever gone to someone's home and not been able to dine (or even snack) with them because of your diet restrictions? It's no fun! We do our best and try to plan in advance. Being prepared with our own safe foods in anticipation of those food events is helpful. Ok, So that's what to do when we're the guests. We know the drill, right? Bet you never thought of your food allergies as an opportunity? We didn't ask for food allergies and sensitivities but maybe they're an opportunity for us ...

Overly Restrictive Diets

Posted by tasteoffreedom on July 1, 2012 at 1:20 AM

Are you overly restrictive in your diet (or your child's)? If you're dealing with food allergies chances are there are some foods that you must avoid to stay healthy. Eggless Challah (traditional bread)

Posted by tasteoffreedom on June 28, 2012 at 11:00 PM

Since it is the day before the Jewish Sabbath ("Shabbos") I thought I'd post my recipe for eggless challah. This is traditionally a braided bread. The classic version calls for eggs in the bread and for an egg wash (glaze). I omit the eggs and the glaze. Try it, you'll never miss the eggs!

Eggless Challah

6 Tbsp dry active yeast (like Fleishman's- I use the Sam's industrial size ones)

2 cups sugar

5 1/2 cups very warm ...

Posted by tasteoffreedom on June 28, 2012 at 12:10 AM

Is the dinner/ homework hour driving you bonkers?

No need to become a crackpot, meet your friend the crockpot!

Put up your meals hours before "rush hour" and have a warm satisfying meal on hand when you need it most.

You can make hearty beef dishes or choose more economical vegetarian fare.

One thrifty contributor recommends a brand of soup mixes called "Hambeens". Believe it or not, they're kosher certified as well. Now that's a "s...

Eggless Rice Krispy Treats

Posted by tasteoffreedom on June 27, 2012 at 8:20 PM

Three great options to have these sticky treats without getting into a sticky allergy situation.

1- Use eggless marshmallows and follow any traditional rice krispy treat recipe

2- Fluff substitute Ricemellow Creme (Suzanne's brand).

consistency is very close to the real thing!

Welcome

Posted by tasteoffreedom on June 27, 2012 at 6:45 PM

Welcome Food Allergy Friends!!!!!

I figure we're all in this together and can learn from each other's experience.

This will  not be a traditional blog where I monologue and you read. Instead, it will be a forum for us to share recipes and tips with each other. Do you have a fantastic recipe that omits a traditional allergenic ingredient (like milk, eggs, wheat, or nuts) to contribute? Perhaps you have a product that you've discovered is a great substitute? Please share it wit...
